Universidad de Deusto - Investigación

Descripción de la oferta

The DEUSTEK/MORElab research group at the University of Deusto is seeking postdoctoral candidates to join the Faculty of Engineering. The research topic is to fusion Hybrid Intelligence and Internet of People, in which Artificial and Human Intelligence get together to create smarter and sustainable environments.

Research Area

Human intelligence and AI each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Machines are effective and efficient for discovering implicit knowledge or hidden patterns from large-scale data, whereas humans are good at conducting cognitive analysis such as reasoning, inference, and making instinct judgments by taking into consideration dynamic and multiple factors. They do not have to be competitive, mutually exclusive, or one dominating/replacing another. One way to address the above two issues is to marry the strengths and mitigate the weaknesses of human intelligence and AI, making them work in collaboration and cooperation. To this end, the latest research endeavour, coined as Hybrid Human–Artificial Intelligence (H-AI), has emerged. H-AI is dedicated to investigating models, methods, technologies, and systems that enable and support the synergy, symbiosis, and augmentation of human- and machine-driven intelligence. Likewise, the Internet of People (IoP) concept arises. IoP is a new paradigm that represents the mapping of social individuals and their interactions with smart devices to the Internet. It focuses on data collection, modelling, analysis and ubiquitous intelligence for a wide range of applications of crowd sourced, Internet-based personal information.

The DEUSTEK/MORElab research group aims at growing its ongoing positioning on the way Hybrid Intelligence and Internet of People are shaped and framed. This explains why  the group seeks a new postdoctoral candidate. The DEUSTEK/MORElab group has a strong background in humanizing technology, i.e. giving place to more human-centric and human-driven, application of Data Science, IoT and Human Interaction technologies. Such research aim encompasses  sustainable awareness rising through IoT, empowering the citizen towards participating in the city daily decisions and governance, or engaging employees towards promoting healthy or sustainable habits in the workplace avoiding attrition of campaigns.

This position aims to explore the ample potential of smart solutions and environments grounded on the extensive usage of data and analytics mediated by the collaboration of machines and humans. Departing from the “V”, i.e. Variety attribute of Big Data field, we are interested on bringing together structured and non-structured data from heterogeneous sources, namely personal sensing devices, IoT sensor networks, Open Government Data, Satellite data, user-generated in-situ data through apps or social networks and even private data. The research position should face the challenge of how to make sense out of data, progressing from data into knowledge, through the collaboration of people and machines, in order to address societal challenges.

The objectives of the position are:

  • Publishing in high impact journals (WoS)
  • Working in competitive projects (Basque Government, Mineco, Horizon Europe...)
  • Submitting competitive research proposals.

Places available: 1

Campus: Bilbao

Deadline for submitting applications: Tuesday, April 8, 2022

Requisitos

  • Postdoctoral Computer Science researcher experience and interest on Hybrid Intelligence and Internet of People paradigms to reinforce two research pillars:

    • Human Computation: is about involving citizens to annotate the world or correct/validate inferences performed by machines. Feedback loops, gamification, persuasion and nudges can be used to improve and validate the results driven by machines.
    • Knowledge modelling and exploitation: human and machine-driven knowledge can be effectively merged and represented in a Knowledge Graph, combining data gathered from machine learning and human contributions. Knowledge in such structures can then be easily exploited to infer new knowledge or build recommender systems; aiding humans in their daily activities with IoT-powered environments.
  • Communication skills and their ability to understand the different perspectives that the research topic has is essential. Moreover, experience in one or more of the following fields is needed:
    • Explainable Recommender systems & Interactive/reinforcement learning techniques.
    • Knowledge modelling and exploitation in the Edge.
    • Crowdsourcing techniques - user-generated data verification and processing.
    • Nudges and persuasion techniques for designing behaviour change interventions.
  • Experience publishing in WoS.
  • Advanced level of English (C1).
  • Valuable the experience applying to H2020 or Horizon Europe and supervising doctoral theses.
  • As for generic competences, we seek a qualified professional, with a teaching vocation, empathy, capacity for teamwork, motivation for innovation, capacity to adapt and to identify with UD’s identity and mission.
  • We support the inclusion of people with disabilities at the University of Deusto. We therefore encourage you to include this condition in your application (certificate of disability equal to or greater than 33%).

 We offer

Joining the Engineering Faculty team at the Bilbao campus. Expected date of incorporation: May 1st 2022. This is a full-time position and the duration will be associated to the ongoing research projects. The salary will be based on an allocation of 30,420 - 39,530 gross euros per year will be granted, distributed into 15 monthly installments, depending on the candidate’s experience.
